Vitamin C for Eye Health

June 28, 2016

What does Vitamin C have to do with your eyes? Many people know of Vitamin C to help your immune system, but do you really know how helpful and powerful this vitamin actually is? Most people are surprised.

Vitamin C is widely known for being great at boosting the immune system and helping to prevent people from getting sick. However, its benefits don't stop there. One of the top benefits that people are usually surprised to learn about here at our stores is it's benefits for the eyes. Did you know that your eyes need 26 times more Vitamin C than any other part of your body?

When taking Vitamin C for the eyes it really needs to be Vitamin C with Bioflavanoids. Bioflavanoids are essential in the absorption of Vitamin C, and have many of their own benefits. When taking Vitamin C with Bioflavanoids, your body now has the ability to reduce the risk of cataracts, protect the eyes, reduce inflammation in the eyes, has the requirements for tissue growth and repair, ability to lower intraocular pressure, enhance healing from pinkeye, and more.

Vitamin C has many other health benefits as well including being a free radical destroyer, increasing the absorption of Iron, reducing symptoms of asthma, protecting against pollution, protecting against cancer providing agents, helping to stop bleeding gums, important for growth and repair of body tissue, playing the primary role in forming collagen in the body, rendering certain toxins and heavy metals harmless, helping with blood clots and can help to prevent them, and promoting healing in wounds and bruises. It is an antiviral substance, and as most commonly known, it enhances the immune system.

The human body does not create Vitamin C on it's own and therefore must get it from an external source. The common misconception in that is that most people believe they can get enough Vitamin C in their diet to sustain their body and get the benefits of it. That is not fully true since a lot of Vitamin C that is consumed through your diet gets lost in the output of urine.

This leaves the next question to be, how much Vitamin C should you take? In the book “Nutritional Healing” by Balch, it is recommended anywhere from 1,000 to 2,500 mg of Vitamin C with bioflavanoids up to 4 times a day for the eyes. One of the most common complaints about Vitamin C is it can cause Diarrhea. This can be a sign that you are taking too much and it is recommended to drop back 1,000 mg and it is at that spot that you should be at the amount of Vitamin C your specific body needs.

Vitamin C with Bioflavanoids is sold at both locations of Orbit Health Food Store, and after reading all the benefits, how could you afford not to be on it?
